2K Brings Onboard Popular Battle Royale Developer to Boost Challenged Hero Shooter Project Ethos

The renowned publisher has appointed Ben Brinkman from Respawn Entertainment to direct the development team at their internal studio, which is currently developing the anticipated third-person action-packed title known as this innovative game.

Leadership Shift Follows Lukewarm Feedback

The new appointee assumes the role of studio head at the development studio following the dismissal of previous head Michael Condrey, who was removed from his post due to the game's disappointing unveiling last fall.

Recently, the company's top executive David Ismailer updated team members about this organizational change through an official communication, which emphasized that playtesting had shown the requirement for a distinct direction.

Ismailer stated that the developers is now overhauling Project Ethos with a refreshed vision, aiming to address community desires.

Trend of Key Acquisitions

This announcement echoes a comparable action taken by 2K Games in the summer, when they hired Rod Fergusson from Blizzard to assist with the beloved franchise development group.

Here is the full text from Ismailer's communication:

Dear Team—

I know you all just finished your town hall - I trust you’re as excited as I am with the good news. Previously I sent you all a note, I stated the following: “I am confident in this team. You all are some of the most dedicated and talented creators we have had the chance to partner with - and we’re looking forward for that partnership to endure.”

With your dedication and flexibility, especially over the last year, you consistently demonstrate that.

The gamer responses from last fall’s the game demo was revealing. It validated the potential of a action-packed game but indicated we still had improvements to make. It highlighted the necessity for a clearer identity.

It’s been inspiring to see how far you’ve advanced. You took the input to mind and overhauled Project ETHOS with a renewed vision - one that’s ready to deliver on its promise to our fans.

The trust in this project increases every day. To further the outstanding progress you’ve made, I’m excited to announce Ben Brinkman as the latest Lead of 31st Union. After some time of discussions, he comes aboard us on Monday, October 20.

Ben’s management and expertise in the competitive gaming genre is vast, having dedicated the recent years developing and leading some of the most recognizable titles in the industry, for example the acclaimed shooter, and lately, the battle royale hit.

Please join me in greeting Ben soon. We are all excited to continue observing the progress of Project ETHOS in the months to follow.

The President

Background of the Incoming Head

Brinkman presently serves in the position of executive producer and production lead at the renowned studio for their flagship title. Brinkman earlier worked at Treyarch and Activision in various development positions on the Call of Duty series, and, before that, had assignments at 2K and Electronic Arts.

Game Information and Vision

The upcoming game was unveiled in last year together with a early access event. Initially, 31st Union portrayed the title as a "no-cost, third-person perspective action-packed experience and an exciting evolution on the genre."

"Create your ideal gameplay session—or face defeat—in this engaging over-the-shoulder adventure! Build your hero in live gameplay to match your preferred approach," the description explains. "Challenge the rivals with unique powers, challenges, and tests that evolve every match. Will you leave securely with your hard-earned loot? Or aim high, risk it all, and trust your group can earn top ranking? The option is up to you."

Project Ethos lacks an official launch window or platforms, but players can expect further news as production advances.
