Approximately fifty automobiles have been marked with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Automobiles, walls and postal boxes were marked, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they reported in a release.
Officers say they were contacted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a individual discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored substance.
The liquid had been placed in the form of a banned symbol, they reported.
Officers then located multiple other smeared vehicles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are illegal in Germany under legislation banning the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials say early analysis indicate the substance was probably blood from a person.
"Currently there is no lead as to where it came from; authorities are presently not informed of any physical harm in association with the occurrence," they stated.
Local authorities stated they were trying "to resolve the incident" and have requested to the community for details.
An important official said the incident left him without words and required to be solved promptly.
"This event strikes at the center of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the extremist attack half a decade ago," he wrote on online, referring to the death of nine people by a shooter targeting individuals of foreign heritage in February 2020.
